In the sun...All across the small town of Little River, citizens were slowly beginning the laborious task of fixing the damage wreaked by the storm. It is late afternoon. The mellow tones of the Mills Brothers float up the narrow stair, reaching him even in his drunken stupor as he sits at his small dining table. A glass rests on the table in front of him, half-full of some amber liquid. He can hear Alice Mae in the kitchen downstairs, dishes clinking in the sink as she cleans up, readying the pub for the evening rush. The sunlight is dull and faded as it filters through the thin curtains and plays across his lean face. It gives no warmth.

The set-up...A lone figure on a crisp morning. Clad in t-shirt and PT shorts in the relatively balmy Avalon winter(it has reached a whopping twelve degrees) JJ Albrecht does not stop long enough for the sweat to ice up on the exposed skin of his arms and legs. His black hair hangs lank against his forehead, the hair on the top beginning to freeze into spikes and swirls. His grey eyes are dark, glassy and unfocused.

The 4th...

I spent the past couple of weeks looking forward to the weekend of the 4th, thinking that since I had the weekend off that it would be a good one.

Oh, I couldn't have been more wrong.

B is gone, doing his Army thing. J and R went to a wedding and are gaming with another group today. K is home with her family, and C is doing family stuff all weekend as well.

I've spent it with with my daughter and my parents. Joy.

My parents are great, don't get me wrong. But I wanted to socialize with friends and watch fireworks and maybe game or have a couple of drinks. Not really possible in current company.

My parents hate gaming. They hate sci-fi or superhero movies. They hate videogames. They are not fond of anything Sera and I like. I've spent the past two days stuck in boredom.

I'm depressed. and lonely.

Did I mention I'm depressed?

I'm gonna go home soon and put Sera to bed and then go cry for a while.

Hope the rest of the world has had a better 4th than me.
